Sugar Glider Legality
Sugar gliders are considered exotic pets so laws regarding ownership vary from state to state. Up until recently there were 4 states that do not permit pet gliders; California, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. However, Georgia recently adopted legislation to legalize them in that state. Rumor has it that Massachusetts is also considering legislation but we have no “official” information to back that statement up. Interestingly, GSG is licensed by the USDA so it is legal for us to sell to anyone, it is just not legal for everyone to own them.
Be sure whomever you get a glider from is properly licensed. This is not only important for all the obvious reasons mentioned throughout this website, but you will also receive official sale paperwork, (APHIS/USDA Form 7020) which is required by some states and/or counties for people to own or possess exotic pets. Without this paperwork it is possible for authorities to take possession of your pets.
Here is a link to the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife article regarding keeping captive / exotic wildlife in that state:

Q: Do you need a license to breed Sugar Gliders?
A: Yes, a USDA license is required if you plan on breeding, selling, exhibiting, or brokering sugar gliders.
Q: Can you sell me a glider if I live in Massachusetts?
A: Yes. As mentioned above we can sell to residents of Massachusetts. It is just not legal to own them in that state.
